Privacy Policy

We built Compass to help you focus on work that matters. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and how we handle it. No surprises, no fine print designed to hide things. Just a plain explanation of how we operate.

What we collect

We collect only what we need:

  • Your email address — used to create and manage your account.
  • Usage analytics — via PostHog, we collect anonymized data about how you use the app: page views, which features you use, and crash reports. This helps us understand what's working and fix what isn't.

We do not collect financial information, contacts, calendar data, or any personal content from your tasks beyond what's sent to AI features (see below).

Why we collect it

  • Your email is required to create your account and let you sign in.
  • Analytics help us improve the product — understanding which features get used (or don't) guides where we put our effort.
  • Crash reports let us fix bugs before they affect more people.

Third parties we work with

We rely on a small number of trusted services to run Compass:

  • Formspree — handles form submissions on our website (like early access sign-ups).
  • PostHog — our analytics provider. Data is anonymized and used only to understand product usage.
  • Hetzner — our cloud hosting and storage provider. Your account data lives on their servers in the EU.
  • OpenAI and Anthropic — power the AI features in Compass. When you use an AI feature, the relevant task data is sent to these providers to generate a response. We do not permit them to use your data for training their models, and they are bound by data processing agreements with us.

We do not sell your data to anyone, ever. We do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.

What we don't do

  • Sell your data to third parties.
  • Share your data with advertisers.
  • Use your data to train AI models.
  • Send you marketing emails without your consent.

Cookies

We use cookies minimally. The only cookie we set is for session authentication — it keeps you signed in. We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or third-party cookies for analytics (PostHog uses a first-party approach).

Data retention

Your account data is kept for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account or request deletion, we remove your data within 30 days. Analytics data is retained in aggregated, anonymized form.

Your rights

You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your data at any time. Just email us at [email protected] and we'll take care of it promptly. You can also request an export of your data in a portable format.

Children

Compass is not intended for users under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has created an account, please contact us and we'll remove it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Compass evolves. If we make a significant change, we'll notify you by email. Your continued use of Compass after a policy update means you accept the revised terms.
